JK Dental offers a range of sleep apnoe and Jaw pain solutions in Hoppers Crossing
TMJ- Temporomandibular joint pain
Sometimes patients can be clenching or grinding their teeth during the day or at night time.
This can present as temporal headaches or facial pain.
The reason for this pain is joint overload and muscle cramping and exhaustion.
These are diagnosed with proper history and examination.
If you feel you are having such headaches or have severe facial pain or toothache, then please see the Dentists at JK Dental.
Treatment involves jaw exercises, and possible construction of a occlusal mouth splint which is like a hard mouthguard that the patient wears at night.
Sleep Apnoea
Sleep Apnoea is a condition where the patient momentarily stops breathing during their sleep. It can be obstructive sleep apnoea or central sleep apnoea.
Obstructive sleep apnoea occurs when the muscles at the back of the throat(pharynx) completely block the airway.
Sleep apnoea can occur due to a variety of reasons- obesity, alcohol consumption, nose or throat problems, sleeping tablets.
Symptoms can be daytime sleepiness, snoring, headaches, restless sleep, breathlessness, poor memory, depression etc.
Diagnosis is done by consultation with a sleep specialist and a sleep study to be done in a sleep laboratory.
Treatment may include construction of a mandibular advancement splint( a mouthguard to keep your jaw forward during sleep) by the Dentist; a CPAP( continuous positive airway pressure machine) machine; or in severe cases surgery to nose or throat.
