Prevention is always better than cure. It is for this reason that you should always have regular dental attendance.
Preventative treatment can consist of oral hygiene instructions to ensure patient is removing the plaque from their teeth thoroughly.
There is dietary counselling to ensure the patient is eating healthy and limiting the intake of foods that are high in sugar and harmful to your teeth in excess.
There may be fluoride application done to your teeth to make the enamel more resistant to decay
Fissure seals- Tooth decay can start in deep grooves and fissures in the molar teeth at the back of the mouth.
These fissures are high risk areas. Many times the toothbrush bristles are unable to clean these thoroughly.
For this reason we can seal these deep grooves by doing fissure seals. They are more important in newly erupted teeth in children and in children that have previously had decay in their teeth.
Fissure seals dont last for ever. However they can last up to two years during which children have time to develop good brushing and eating habits.
